Board of Directors
Dr. Pam Stanfield graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1988 with an Ed. D. in Educational Administration. Prior to retirement, Pam was a Professor at Missouri Baptist University, and an Elementary Principal in both the Kirkwood and Wentzville, Missouri school districts. She has presented at state and national levels on cross racial mentoring and has been mentoring at risk youth since 2002. She is currently a citizen Deputy Juvenile Officer and volunteers weekly at the St. Louis County Juvenile Detention Center. She has recently been invited to serve as a member of the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative (JDAI) Community Collaborative. Pam serves as President of the board and is also an active member of The Covering House Speakers’ Bureau.
Cathy graduated from William Woods University with a Bachelor’s in Fashion Merchandising which spring boarded her career in the fashion industry with Saks Fifth Avenue. Cathy’s focus shifted to family and motherhood after the arrival of her three sons. However, as the daughter of civic minded parents, she continued to volunteer. Cathy joined The Covering House in 2013 as the Chairman of the Ambassadors Committee. She leads the Ambassadors in spreading awareness about sex trafficking in the St. Louis area and The Covering House mission to help the young victims. She became a Board Member in 2018 and continues to serve The Covering House in fundraising and special events.
Chris Burke has been serving The Covering House as the Treasure since October of 2012. Chris graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in Finance. Chris has been serving clients with his financial expertise since 1992. He earned the CFP® certification as a demonstration of his commitment to upholding a recognized standard of excellence for financial planning. Chris joined Roman, Butler, Fullerton & Co. as a partner in 2010. He is active in the community with various charities including Our Little Haven, Camp Weloki and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Eastern Missouri. He is a member of the Rotary of Webster Groves as well as the Webster Groves Chamber of Commerce. Chris is actively involved in his church.
Kara is an Associate at Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale, P.C., where she represents clients in matters related to employee benefits and ERISA. Her practice has included involvement with all aspects of litigation related to public pensions. Kara’s experience includes representing clients at two other St. Louis law firms, and she interned for the Catholic Immigration Law Project and the Missouri State Public Defender. In 2013, Kara received Missouri Lawyers Weekly, Missouri Lawyers Award. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for The Covering House, Kara is also involved with The Young Friends of Legal Services of Eastern Missouri.
Sara serves as a Board Member on the The Covering House Board of Directors. She holds a degree in Business Administration from Webster University. Sara has worked as a Business Development Manager for sixteen years. She also has worked as the Senior University Relations Talent Specialist for Monsanto, the Manager of Employer Relations and Recruiting at the Washington University Olin Business School, and has worked as a Wholesale Account Manager for Citi. Sara has served on The Covering House Board of Directors since October 2019. Sara has a heart for philanthropic endeavors dedicated to children and families. She serves The Covering House in a variety of capacities, such as Fundraising and Special events. She has served as Gala Committee Chair for The Covering House’s Dine for Dignity Gala for the last three years.
Sister Virginia Herbers is an Apostle of the Sacred Heart of Jesus who is Director of Spiritual Formation at St. Louis University’s Office of Mission and Identity. She has a master’s degree in pastoral studies and has ministered in education at both the elementary and high school levels in Connecticut, New York, Missouri and Taiwan. Other ministries have included spiritual direction on university campuses, directing the Queen of Apostles Spiritual Life Center in St. Louis and a variety of ministries for her community, including formation, vocation and provincial leadership. Sister Herbers spent more than 10 years working for the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in various roles in Connecticut and St. Louis. She served as both formation and vocation director before serving as vice-provincial. Before that, she spent 16 years at Cor Jesu Academy, where she taught theology and worked as a campus minister.
Don graduated from the University of Missouri – St. Louis with a degree in History Education. Throughout his career, Don has worked in key positions in Fortune 500 companies and was founder and CEO of Datacor Inc. Currently, Don is a strong promoter and supporter of the local Food Pantry and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Don is honored to be the newest board member of The Covering House.
