Founder’s Corner – It Was Almost Like Coming Home

businesswoman with a note-book

“Monday, I sat down with our new client.. I told her it was going to be very relaxed, sort of a “get to know each other” time. We chatted for a bit, and then she asked me, “Earlier when you said if you won the lottery, you would still work here for free, was that real?” I assured her it was. I confided that this was the best gig I’ve ever had, and I’m not going anywhere for any reason.

She got tears in her eyes and said, “I’ve never experienced a place where staff cared about the residents and actually wanted to be here. The previous staff were mean and were just there to get a paycheck.” I told her I couldn’t think of one single person at The Covering House with that mentality, and we talked about this truly being a chosen family. I could see in her eyes that she was hoping it was true. I asked her how her first couple of days had gone. She said it was “way better” than her last placement. I asked what her first impressions were, and her answer was exactly what I know you had in mind when you rented this house and put so much love and effort into it… she just simply said, “It was almost like…coming home.”

She hasn’t processed any of her sexual trauma that happened years ago. She stated she hasn’t ever trusted anyone enough to talk about it. After hearing about how dedicated the staff are, how loving they are, how important she already is to us, she just started processing that old stuff. We didn’t get far, but we started.

The Covering House is changing her heart and her life after 48 hours. So, thank you for The Covering House, Dedee. And thank you for allowing me to be part of it.”

Residential Therapist Miss Cathy

I wish I could share Cathy’s last name so you could know exactly who our therapist is. For reasons of safety and privacy, we opt now to share last names.

Cathy has connected so well with our girls. I am thrilled that she is on our team and loves our girls. One girl said that she is the best therapist she has ever had.

Thank you Miss Cathy for being that safe place for our girls.
